ART OLYMPIC PRIZE 2021

Perhaps not everyone knows that the Olympics have not always awarded only the best sports performances. In fact, from 1912 to 1952, a parallel and contemporary Art Competition was held during the Olympic Games, divided into five categories: painting, sculpture, architecture, literature and music. This competition, in which artists of various disciplines competed, was conceived and desired by Baron de Coubertin, who proposed it in 1906 and became active in 1912. Famous names participated, such as Jean René Gauguin, son of Paul Gauguin who obtained the medal of bronze for sculpture at the 1924 Olympics. At the 1924 Paris Olympics, however, the great Igor Stravinskij awarded the medals to the musicians. The Art Olympic Prize was created to reward painters, sculptors, photographers, graphic designers, video artists who, thanks to their talent, could have participated in that competition. The objective of the Prize is to try to make artistic competitions return among the events of the Olympics. The Prize was conceived and curated by Francesco Saverio Russo and Salvatore Russo. This year Karla de Lara was selected as one of the internation thett will receive this prize, and her work will be published in the Art Olympic Prize catalog and in the Art International Contemporary Magazine. among her dossier on the history of art and artistic competitions at the Olympics.
